Hospitality Advising
From orientation to graduation, the Hospitality College’s award-winning advising team is here to help you.
Our advisors are the student support system. They help students navigate their academic careers and maximize their time at UNLV by providing guidance on degree requirements and class schedules.
We Are Here to Help
Advisors at the Hospitality Advising Center help chart out a student’s academic path by reviewing degree requirements and mapping out a plan of action to meet them. Peer mentors are another great resource for first-year students adjusting to college life.
“Our goal is to empower students to take charge of their educational career through a collaborative mentoring relationship between advisor, faculty, and student. We also provide ongoing academic counseling to assist students in reaching their personal and academic goals.”
Jill Weigel, Associate Director of Undergraduate Advising
“The Peer Mentor program is important because it allows new students to transition into college life with the guidance of fellow peers. Mentors are an outlet to ask questions and seek advice in a way that feels genuine, and students can learn from someone who was recently in their shoes.”
Kaila Seidler, Hospitality Student & Peer Mentor
"Making the transition to college is an exciting time full of both questions and opportunities. Learning to manage your time, knowing what resources are available to you, and navigating responsibilities with peers and friends can be some of the biggest key factors in being a successful student.”

If you would like to change your major, please call our office at 702-895-3616 to schedule a change of major appointment with one of our advisors.
We usually suggest scheduling an appointment once a semester a few weeks before registration begins. Your advisor will keep you updated on curriculum changes so you do not end up taking the wrong courses, and you will be able to get an updated list of course suggestions for the upcoming semester.
Taking courses at your local college can be a great way to save money and get ahead on courses. You can check Transferology.com to see what courses will transfer to UNLV from your local college. Be sure to let your advisor know which courses you plan to take so they can keep your course plan up to date.
If your college is not listed on Transferology and you need help finding out if you can take a course at different college, please discuss this with your academic advisor at your next appointment.
All academic calendars can be found on the Office of the Registrar’s calendar webpage. Deadlines for summer courses can be found on the Summer Term office’s webpage.
If you feel you need to make any changes to your courses that do not fall within the Registrar’s or Summer Term’s deadlines, please contact the respective office as soon as possible to see what accommodations can be made.
Applying for graduation is the easiest thing you will do in your time at UNLV! One semester prior to your intended graduation date, log into MyUNLV and apply for graduation. Please make sure you apply only for the semester you intend to complete all major requirements.
