As you prepare to transfer to another state agency, there are a number of items that you need to address to ensure a smooth transition. Below are tips on how to achieve this:
Notify Your Supervisor
Talk to your supervisor about your intent to transfer to another state agency. Submit a formal letter of resignation and upload the letter in Workday.
Classified Employees
- Complete a Resignation from State Service Form and indicate that you will be transferring to another state agency.
- Change Job in Workday by clicking on the blue cloud in the upper right corner and select ‘View Profile’.
- Select ‘Actions>Job Change>Resign>Transfer to another state agency and complete prompts.
- Upload Resignation Form.
Administrative Professional

- Upload Resignation Letter.
Notify Human Resources (HR)
Email offboarding@unlv.edu to notify HR that you are planning on transferring and to schedule an offboarding appointment. The email needs to include the following information:
- Your full name
- Current department and contact number
- Your last day with current department
- Name of the UNLV department you are transferring to
- Start date of new position
Discuss Your Time Off
We recommend that you meet with your department's Absence Partner to ensure that all of your time off requests are correct in Workday. Rules regarding the transfer of leave will vary depending on whether you are professional/faculty or classified employee:
Classified Employees
- If you transfer to another state agency without a break in service, your accrued leave transfers to that state agency.
- If you transfer to another state agency with a break in service, your accrued annual leave will be paid out and you will forfeit the sick leave.
Faculty/Professional Employees
- If you are moving to a Classified position at another state agency with or without a break in service, your accrued leave will be paid out and you will start the new position as a new Classified member.
Return Department Property
- Return department property, including office keys, access cards, or department credit cards.
Settle Any Outstanding Debt Owed to the University
- Debts can include but are not limited to library fines and parking citations.
Update Workday
- Complete any outstanding Inbox items
- Update your contact information, including your email address. Your UNLV email will end on your last day of employment.
Please note a break in service would result in a separation and rehire, rather than a transfer.
