Discuss Your Separation
- Talk to your supervisor about your separation and select an effective date for your separation.*
- Classified Employees: Complete a Resignation from State Service Form and indicate that you will be resigning. Change Job in Workday by following the steps below:
- Click on the blue cloud in the upper right corner
- ‘View Profile'
- ‘Actions'
- 'Job Change'
- 'Resign' and complete prompts.
- Upload Resignation Form from State Service
- Administrative/Professional, LOA with Benefits and Postdocs: Complete a Resignation Letter and indicate that you will be resigning. Change Job in Workday by following the steps below:
- Click on the blue cloud in the upper right corner
- ‘View Profile'
- ‘Actions'
- 'Job Change'
- 'Resign' and complete prompts.
- Upload Resignation Letter
- *Supervisor: 1) Immediate supervisor officially responds/accepts the resignation via emailing the employee a Supervisor's Resignation Acceptance Letter (within 1 -2 business days of employee's written notification). 2) If the employee did not submit the resignation notice through Workday or resigned unexpectedly with no notice, the supervisor will initiate the termination in Workday and upload the Written Resignation from the employee and the Supervisor’s Resignation Acceptance Letter.
- Schedule Your Offboarding Meeting by emailing offboarding@unlv.edu to discuss the following:
- Continuation of benefits
- Retirement accounts
- Continuation of voluntary insurance policies, unemployment, etc.

Discuss Your Time Off
We recommend that you meet with your department leave-keeper to ensure that all of your time off requests are correct in Workday.
- Administrative Faculty/Professional Employees: you are entitled to a payout of your accrued annual (vacation) days up to 48 days unless your appointing authority has directed you in writing to exhaust your leave prior to your last day.
- Classified Employees: if you have completed six months of continuous service, you are entitled to a payment of any unused annual leave and comp time. If you separate from the university with 10 years of service, you are eligible to receive a payout of any unused sick leave in excess of 30 days (240 hours) based on years of service as follows:
- 10 years but less than 15, not more than $2,500
- 15 years but less than 20, not more than $4,000
- 20 years but less than 25, not more than $6,000
- 25 years or more, not more than $8,000
- Academic Faculty: you do not accrue annual leave and would not be eligible for a payout
- Postdocs: you will forfeit any annual leave accrued

Settle Any Outstanding Debt Owed to the University
Debts can include but are not limited to library fines and parking citations.
Update Workday
- Complete any outstanding inbox items
- Update your contact information, including your email address. Your UNLV email will end on your last day of employment.
- Click on ‘View Profile’ in upper right corner in Workday
- Click on ‘Actions’ and ‘Personal Data’
- Select ‘Edit Personal Information’
- Select ‘Change Contact Information’, make changes and ‘Submit’
