Why did you choose UNLV?
Weather! I came from a place that gets rain a lot so I wanted go somewhere with a lot of sun! It didn’t hurt that we have one of the BEST hospitality schools in the world.

What has been your favorite UNLV memory so far?
My favorite UNLV memory has been being apart of the women's empowerment program on campus, and feeling the love and support of women supporting women fill the room. It wasn't this planned, tangible thing, but as guest speakers were sharing, and cohort members were engaging, there was this safe and inspiring feeling that filled the room and made me love UNLV campus even more.
What advice would you offer new students?
I would offer three things and most of these are constantly told because they are true. Don't be afraid to talk to your professors. They are the most helpful people on campus and their job and career revolves around helping students. They truly love trading research, giving you extra help, or guiding you to understand the material better. Man y also say use your resources, but I would go further and say network your way through your resources. When people say use your resources, they don't just mean the CARE center or Academic advising center. They mean clubs, cohorts, scholarships, and people you meet. And third learn how to manage your time. The busier you are along with a good sense of time management the more you will get out of your college experience.
As an in-state student, I chose UNLV because I wanted to be able to live close to home and support myself financially. UNLV surpassed all my expectations and I have loved every minute of my experience here!

Try to make some for yourself to relax and distress. Sometimes it's very easy to forget to take some time for yourself especially when you're in college, even if it is an hour or two, just for yourself.

Originally, I was planning to attend UNR. I had my dorm room picked out and already met my room mate. But this was in 2020, so I was concern about COVID. I was worried that I would be stuck in a dorm, doing online classes. So, I decided to apply to the Honors College just to see what would happen. I got a response in less than a week, and decided to attend UNLV.

This past spring semester, I went on my first geology field trip. We went to the Valley of Fire and it was so much fun. It's easy to shy away and not speak up for yourself, but being able to communicate your needs clearly and effectively to your professors and peers will help you adjust, feel more comfortable, and feel more confident in this new environment!

What has been your favorite UNLV memory so far?
Attending a CSUN meeting as it was overdue by almost 2 hours. I attended to figure out more about CSUN as a group and a family. While it was late and I had no real intentions of being apart of the group, I was happy to stay the whole time. I sat in the back listening to everything and everyone, the new auditions of the senates, and it made me grew as a student to become more involved. I felt the connection between everyone and it felt so authentic and lively, made me feel apart of a group, a community, and most importantly; A new family to share new experiences with. I came into contact and even said some words towards the end of the meeting. I was extremely happy to be apart of such a wonderful group and hope to achieve a spot as an intern to become more involved in the CSUN government.

What advice would you offer new students?
I would say get involved! It has been the most impactful part of my journey at UNLV so far. The friends and memories I have made by just joining an organization have been life changing.
UNLV has always been promoting their campus and resources to me through high school. As I started getting closer and closer to my senior year, I would be overwhelmed with moving to schools out of state, just knowing how competitive some of their programs are for students. At UNLV, I feel that everyone is able to grow together and embrace each other's achievements. UNLV also seemed to have a good engineering program, which was what I wanted to get into. Their social life is also very lively and engaging to party people as well as those who just want a nice relaxing time to sit down and do recreational activities with others. There is such a positive energy among students at UNLV, that I felt it would be the best transition for me into college life.
What has been your favorite UNLV memory so far?
Recently there was an event in front of the Student Union where they had a bouncy house set up along with a race course, and me and one of my favorite people got to race each other on the course. It was a small moment since they had to leave early, but it was fun to race them and to watch others also get into the fun! Other people were also painting pottery or playing other games offered to students at the event. It was nice to see everyone just let go of their stress and just have fun!

You can meet new people, ask them for help with whatever you may struggle with, and be part of a group on campus that celebrates your interests!
I chose UNLV partly because of location. Las Vegas is considered “the ninth island” to Hawai’i locals so I knew I’d find people who understood my culture and upbringing. It’s also the neighboring state to my family, so I get to be independent here but if I need family, they’re only a short flight or drive away. The other part to choosing UNLV was the Kinesiology program. The health sciences department has a lot of resources and opportunities, and I plan applying to the DPT program here after I finish my bachelor’s.
What has been your favorite UNLV memory so far?
Working in admissions is my favorite ongoing memory. Being an RR was out of my comfort zone originally, but the environment we have here is outstanding! What advice would you offer new students?
Advice I would offer to new students is to get involved and open yourself up to new experiences! Coming from an out-of-state student, I didn’t really know what being a student at UNLV entailed, and what living in Las Vegas would really look like until I actually started living here. UNLV has a lot of events for students to get out and meet new people, our sports events are always a fun time to go to, and there’s so many opportunities to go to concerts, music festivals, & shows!
I was born and raised in Las Vegas and hated when growing up all i heard was bad things about UNLV so when it came to applying for universities UNLV was the only school i applied to because i wanted to prove that what others say is not true and that everything is based on what you make of it.

I chose UNLV because of the field I wish to pursue after my undergraduate degree! As excited as you are for college, make sure you manage your time properly. It was the most comfortable choice as I didn't really want to go to a university out of state.

This one student I saw was holding food as she was skating, hit a part of the pavement sticking out and absolutely flew with her food.

One piece of advice I can give new students is ask questions, especially to your orientation leader or peer mentor. If you have questions about almost anything we can try and help you solve it. We have all completed at least one year of college and we can talk to you about our experiences, advice, resources, and more for you to succeed!

I then went on to learn about REB during rebel ready week and safe to say it changed my life for the better!

What advice would you offer new students?
Join a club and use your resources! A lot of clubs will pay you so that's even more of an incentive! I truly don't think I'd have a good relationship with college if all I did was study, work, and sleep. If you don't want to join a club you could always go to events for free stuff!
