I chose UNLV because, although I have a strong passion for chemistry, my main field of interest revolved around being of service to those around me. Chemistry, as an industry, does not excel in such aspects. Thus, I looked into the hospitality program at UNLV and felt impressed by what the course had to offer me. It was then that I found myself choosing UNLV for their admirably unique program.
What has been your favorite UNLV memory so far?
My favorite memory at UNLV has happened fairly recently. Last month, I often found myself visiting campus on my "day off." For instance, I have a Mon/Tues/Thurs schedule, yet ended up showing up on Wednesdays. Sometimes this would be for good reason, like a meeting or interview, but aside from that, what made the day most memorable was my friends who had shared their time with me. On one of those Wednesdays, several of us gathered at Panera and ate outside on the benches. It was a simple, yet intimate moment that I was able to share with people who I otherwise would have never met without enrolling and being a student at UNLV.

By the end of this Spring, I will have successfully completed two semesters at UNLV. Although that may not sound like a lot in itself, I have gained so much knowledge and experience by simply talking to people. I know that not everyone is a "people person," but making those connections can open up so many new doors for an individual. And, apart from opportunistic advantages, being able to listen and gain stories from a diverse arrangement of souls makes somebody much more cultured and in tune with their reality.

UNLV has always been promoting their campus and resources to me through high school. As I started getting closer and closer to my senior year, I would be overwhelmed with moving to schools out of state, just knowing how competitive some of their programs are for students. At UNLV, I feel that everyone is able to grow together and embrace each other's achievements. UNLV also seemed to have a good engineering program, which was what I wanted to get into. Their social life is also very lively and engaging to party people as well as those who just want a nice relaxing time to sit down and do recreational activities with others. When you put it like that, you realize that stepping into this new chapter isn't as scary as it seems because no one has it all figured out yet. Then it becomes easier to put your most authentic self forward. There is a place for every kind of person here at UNLV, you just have to branch out and find it.

Don’t be afraid to do things by yourself. There are so many things to do on campus and whether you have someone to go with you or not, I think it's worth it to try new things by yourself. For me it was either college or the military but the military was a dream my dad had for me not a dream I had for myself so i then decided to go to college.
