As some college students protest over the war between Israel and Hamas terrorists in Gaza, officials at UNLV are toeing a fine line between protecting free speech and quelling concerns that some demonstrations have allowed antisemetic rhetoric.

UNLV was one of the first institutions to lean fully into AI bots, creating an avatar of President Keith Whitfield in March 2022. AI had not become a household term yet, but the university wanted to offer a unique way to connect students to the president.

The new faculty pay raises have been compounded by budget shortfalls elsewhere, including slow enrollment growth.
