University of Nevada, Las Vegas announced the establishment of the Kerestesi Center for Insurance and Risk Management within the Lee Business School.

Las Vegas is stepping into the spotlight in the film industry, with plans for two large studios coming to the valley and a proposed tax incentive and infrastructure bill to help with the transition. One studio - The Las Vegas Media Campus - would be built near the Durango Resort and Casino by California-based Birtcher Development in partnership with UNLV, and an even bigger Sony Pictures studio is planned for somewhere in Summerlin with the Howard Hughes Corporation.

Mae Ling Catayong was still a teenager when she realized that resources some may take for granted are not easily available to all. Her hard-of-hearing mother’s hearing aids broke, and as an immigrant who was never taught sign language in school, Catayong’s mother couldn’t communicate with her family. They couldn’t afford replacements, so the family resorted to typing out their conversations on her smartphone.

The two proposed real estate developments envisioned by the bill are the “Summerlin Production Studios Project” — where the Howard Hughes Corp. is expected to lead development in partnership with Sony — and the “Las Vegas Media Campus Project” developed by Birtcher Development at the Harry Reid Research and Technology Park on UNLV’s campus. No studio partner has come along at this point for the UNLV site.

An updated alternative to a proposed traffic improvement project for Tropicana Avenue near UNLV resulted in millions of dollars of savings for Clark County.

The three final teams were selected from among 25 other teams made up of the school’s more than 90 fifth graders. The teams spent six weeks developing their mock business proposals as part of the “JA: It's My Business!” entrepreneurship program under the guidance of Junior Achievement staff and volunteers.
