Darian Fluker chose UNLV for one simple reason: Las Vegas is her home. As she grew up, she watched as her city transformed, making it an easy decision to stay close and follow along as the city evolves into something even more unbelievable.
Darian is a double major in theatre and hospitality management — majors that align perfectly with the Viva Las Vegas roots of UNLV's hometown.
Why UNLV?
As someone whose majors both revolve around entertainment, Vegas is the epitome of a show-stopping city. I knew the option to be down the street from the strip was unmatched, and the opportunities that would be available to me had no competition.
Best part about being in Las Vegas for college?
I've received a scholarship given to Hospitality students from Las Vegas from the COO Bill Hornbuckle of MGM International. I had the opportunity to meet him to discuss my future career, tips and tricks about navigating the field, and advice for student leaders in the industry. I've had the opportunity to volunteer for large-scale UNLV events such as UNLVino by coordinating with local food and beverage vendors to promote scholarships for the college. [Producing the wine-tasting fundraiser is often a capstone course for students.] I've had numerous internship opportunities that can carve my career path in ways that are unimaginable.

I also work with UNLV Admissions as an orientation leader to give students a great start to their journey here at UNLV. I serve as the hospitality ambassador for Harrah College of Hospitality, working with students and parents to lead tours and answer questions to help students decide if UNLV should be their next step. (Yes!)
Number one reason a future student should consider UNLV?
UNLV makes you push your boundaries. You're exposed to so many different types of people, opportunities, and atmospheres. You get to experience Vegas from a different perspective and see beyond the lights and be a part of something great.
