Bret Meich

Bret Meich,  '08 JD, has been promoted to counsel at Downey Brand as of Jan. 1. From his base in Downey Brand’s Reno office, he works in both Nevada and California, utilizing his business and government background to offer strategies and tactics that effectively resolve complex commercial and intellectual property disputes, and assists clients with governmental and regulatory matters. He earned his bachelor's degree at Georgetown University.

Amanda Gordon

Amanda Hurst Gordon, '09 BA Sociology, '11 MA Criminal Justice, recently was hired as the board and volunteer relations coordinator in UNLV's ​office of alumni engagement & annual giving.

Thomas Cahill

Thomas Cahill, '06 Master of Education - Special Education, is an intervention specialist at Tiffin Columbian High School in Tiffin, Ohio. Grandchildren, camping, farming, and golf are his hobbies. He lives in Galion.

Melissa Burns

Melissa J. Burns, '02 BA Communication Studies, works as a cyber security engineer at CERT, a division of the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. In 2017, she earned a master's degree in information systems management from Carnegie Mellon. From 2010-13 she served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Vanuatu. She lives in Pittsburgh.

Scott Murray

Scott Murray, '97 MA Ethics & Policy Studies, has been promoted to senior vice president for strategic accounts at Babel Street, the leading open source collection and analysis company in the United States. He oversees all international and U.S. Air Force accounts. He lives in Loudon, Tennessee.

Cheryl Schreiner

Cheryl Walker Schreiner,  '84 BS Hotel Administration, is regional vice president of HelmsBriscoe, a company she joined in 1999. Her extensive 30-year career in the hospitality industry includes experience with the Sheraton and Marriott Corporations.  A member of the North Florida chapter of Meeting Professionals International, she has held various board positions, including director of leadership, diversity and membership chair, and president in 2007 and 2008. As a member of the HelmsBriscoe leadership team, she mentors new associates with HelmsBriscoe, fostering a team of more than 30 associates in the Florida region. Schreiner, who has an MBA from Nova Southeastern University, has earned the HelmsBriscoe President’s Club Award consistently since 2002 and also has received master’s club status. In 2005, she was named as Top Producer for ResourceOne, HelmsBriscoe’s full-service meeting management firm, and in 2010 she was honored as the Top Cruise Producer. In 2015, she earned the certified meeting professional designation. In 2017, she completed her certified meeting manager designation. Married with two children, she owns a famous show dog, Jack, an English springer spaniel. Her hobbies include skiing, tennis, showing dogs, and traveling. The family lives in Jacksonville, Florida.        

Abbi Silver

Abbi Silver, '86 BA Political Science, in January 2019 will become the sixth woman to serve on the Nevada Supreme Court. She is running unopposed in the November 2018 election, so automatically will be elected to the post. She recently was sworn in by Gov. Brian Sandoval as the first female chief judge of the Court of Appeals of Nevada. In 2015, Sandoval appointed her to the inaugural Court of Appeals of Nevada after recommendation by the Nevada Judicial Selection Committee. She recalls political science professors emeriti Dina Titus and Jerry Simich writing her recommendations for law school in 1986. Titus, D-Nev., now is a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.            

Natalie Bachiri

Natalie Lutz Bachiri, '92 BA English and BA Communication Studies, is an emotionally focused therapy (EFT) therapist. Her hobbies include reading, gardening, and researching mental and physical health. The mother of two lives in the small European country of Luxembourg.      

Jennifer Oshiro

Jennifer Oshiro, '05 BS Hotel Administration, '08 Master of Education - Educational Leadership, was promoted to senior sales manager, groups for Cirque du Soleil, resident show division, and Blue Man Group Las Vegas. She leads the group sales team selling eight shows in Las Vegas including tickets, additional experiences, and off-site performances. She and Kurtis Rivers recently were married in Zion National Park. They met while working at Blue Man Group. The couple has been traveling (the Philippines, Taiwan, and Australia), trying new breweries, and attempting to garden. She also is giving back by volunteering for the Hospitality College with new student welcome calls and alumni events.

Heather Brown

Heather Brown, '08 BA Political Science, co-founded a political consulting firm, Modern Action Strategies, in 2013. The company focuses on grassroots campaign consulting and scale-able event organizing. Most of its clients are scattered around Europe, which is why she now lives in Brussels, Belgium.

Jack Werner

Jack Werner '72 BA Political Science, works in a variety of capacities. He is executive director of the Institute for Sustainable Power, an international standards development body where he recently developed the standard for U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) weatherization training program. He also is a senior fellow at the Climate Institute where he works on climate change programs, recently developing sustainability programs for small island development states (SIDS). Additionally, he serves as contract assessor for the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for certification bodies seeking ANSI accreditation. He also works under contract as a coach for communities involved in DOE's community solar Sunshot program. Previously, he served as director of the DC Government Energy Office. He is married and lives in Washington, D.C.      

Alice Berly

Alice Berly, '85 BS Finance, '87 MBA, is retired. She enjoys taking classes through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at UNLV. She says she spends so much time with her OLLI classes that she hasn't found time to return to other hobbies such as machine embroidery.
