About the General Council
The Teaching & Learning Commons (TLC) General Council provides guidance, expertise, and strategic advice to the TLC. The main responsibilities of general council include:
- Stakeholder Representation: Act as a voice for their constituent units and ensuring their interests are considered
- Offering Guidance: Offer insights, guidance, and recommendations to help TLC navigate challenges and make informed and democratic decisions
- Strategic Planning: Assist in development and review of of vision, mission, and strategic plans and ensure they align with UNLV mission
- Advocacy: Promote UNLV interests and mission about teaching and learning among their constituencies
- Evaluation: Provide feedback on TLC programs, services, and initiatives suggesting ways to enhance their effectiveness and impact
- Accountability: Hold TLC accountable for its actions and ensuring that it remains true to its mission
To expedite planning, a TLC Advisory Board will be selected by the council members.
Members
The TLC General Council consists of 22 members, including five ex officio members and 17 members appointed by unit heads. Appointed members serve a two-year term on the TLC General Council (some units have three-year terms initially to create a staggered membership). Appointed members are divided into four groups and one member of each group serves a one-year term on TLC Advisory Board.
