About
UPD has a full-service police department with fully certified police officers. UPD officers have the same training, qualifications, and responsibilities as every other police agency's officers with a focus on community engagement and campus outreach. We are available and patrolling 24/7/365 across the CSN, NSC, DRI, and UNLV campuses and properties.
There are many ways to reach us!
- Download the safety app for your campus (RebelSAFE, CSN MobileSAFETY, NSC Safety)
- Save our phone numbers:
- Emergency: 702-895-3669
- Non-Emergency: 702-895-3668
- Information: 702-895-5575
- You can also use our emergency phones located throughout all of our campuses!
- Don’t forget about social media – follow us @UPDSouth on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
Our dispatch center and patrol units are available 24/7/365. You can call at any time when you need us. Our administrative offices are open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
From a cell phone, you will be calling the local agency, like Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), Henderson Police Department (HPD), or North Las Vegas Police Department (NLVPD). Once their dispatch center understands you’re calling from the University, they will transfer you to the UPD dispatch center. In an on-campus emergency, call 702-895-3669, use the safety app, or any emergency phone to reach us.
Our main headquarters is located at 1280 Dorothy Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89119, across the street from UNLV’s main campus, in the University Gateway garage, first floor.
Visit our contact page for a complete list of our addresses and sub-stations.
Absolutely! We have student worker jobs open regularly and we have intern positions open each semester. Check out employment opportunities on our website for more information!
Services
We offer notary, fingerprinting, campus presentations, property registration, and self-defense courses, to name a few. All these services are either free or for a nominal fee. Visit our website or call us at 702-895-5575 for more information.
We offer a security escort service! Based on availability, either our officers or Cadets can walk you to your car or residential hall and make sure you get there safely.
That depends. First, check in the areas you think you lost the item. The library, Student Union, and gym might have their own lost and found, as do many other buildings. The UPD Lost and Found office holds valuables and can be reached at 702-895-5795. Leave a detailed message with the description of the item, when you lost it, and a way to contact you.
Submit a request online. You will be contacted once the report is ready to be picked up, and fees may apply if your name is not on the report.
The daily crime log and Clery report are available on our website.
Policies
Per NSHE policy, marijuana possession and usage is prohibited on campus. You may receive a citation and be referred to Student Conduct for a violation.
Per NRS 202.265, the following are prohibited on university property:
- Projectile weapons
- Bladed weapons greater than three inches in length
- UNLV Housing & Residential Life’s policy states if you are 21 or older, you may consume alcohol in a responsible and appropriate manner.
- CSN prohibits possession of alcohol on property for any purpose outside of approved events or academic classes.
- NSC also prohibits possession of alcohol on college property.
Tailgating is allowed, but check out the policies before you do.
Our campuses are full of public areas that are available for these situations. When it becomes a disturbance to the higher education goals (classes, events, meetings, etc.) is when we have to step in.
For more information, visit UNLV’s Free Speech website, the NSHE policy of Freedom of Expression, and CSN’s statement on the use of public areas.
Yes except where signage is posted indicating it is prohibited. The campuses are not skate parks, so practicing your tricks is not permitted.
Motorized scooters designed to be ridden on the road are prohibited from use within campuses.
Patrol and Crime
Call 702-895-3669, use your safety app, or use an emergency phone.
Our jurisdiction, formally, is the Southern Nevada higher education institutions. We patrol the campus, including the residence halls. We can respond to assist for anything off campus, though technically it will fall in the other agency’s jurisdiction. We have inter-local agreements with the agencies around the valley to work together.
If the ticket was issued by one of our officers and you need more information, contact our non-emergency line at 702-895-3668.
If the ticket was issued by Parking and Transportation services, pay your fine online or visit their website for information.
Yes; our Investigations and Intelligence unit refers to any and all security cameras available when they investigate.
If you are ever unsure about our officers, call us. Our dispatch center can tell you where each officer is and if there is an officer in your area or trying to contact you.
Always ask the handlers first, but usually the answer is yes! Our K-9s are explosives detection and, as long as they are not actively working on that, they love attention!
Call us! We are able to conduct welfare checks. Let us know how long it has been since you’ve seen/spoken to your student and provide as much information as you can so we can better contact them.
Because of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) regulations, we may not be able to give you as much information as you’d like, but, if we make contact with them, we will advise them to call you!
Call us! We can tell you if you qualify for a protection order, a no-contact order, and/or help refer the situation to student conduct.
Also know that there are resources across our campuses, including CAPS, Student Conduct, and the Title IX offices that are available to assist.
