Research Experience for Undergraduates

Research Experience for Undergraduates are structured research programs designed to provide undergraduate students with hands-on experience in scientific or academic research. These programs aim to enrich the educational experience for undergraduate students by fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and technical skills in a real-world research setting. REUs offer students the opportunity to work closely with faculty members or researchers on a specific project, often during the semester months.

Eligibility

Undergraduate students must meet NSF guidelines to be eligible for a REU site. UNLV manages two REU sites: Smart Cities and Mechanisms of Evolution. All undergraduate students working on a REU program with UNLV faculty are eligible to participate in the Showcase.

Program Participation

UNLV undergraduate students are encouraged to consider REU sites throughout the country and peruse the 2025 REU Sites database.
