Assemblywoman Olivia Diaz (D-North Las Vegas) introduced Assembly Bill 407 earlier this session. The bill reorganizes the management of Cooperative Extension Services (CES) into two regions, with UNLV administering the Southern Region (Clark, Lincoln, and Nye Counties, which collectively constitute 75 percent of the state’s population) and UNR administering the Northern Region (comprised of the 14 northernmost counties). UNR currently runs CES throughout Nevada.

As players left the UNLV basketball program in droves last year, forward Dwayne Morgan was one of the few to stay. And because he was one of three players who returned, coach Marvin Menzies wants to do everything he can to help Morgan, who is indefinitely suspended after his May 6 arrest for disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor charge.

The official attendance records may not reflect just how bad things got for UNLV basketball last year, but there were nights when you would have been hard pressed to count 4,000 people inside the Thomas & Mack Center. So it was encouraging to see about 500 enthusiastic fans turn out on Thursday evening for the Rebel Summer Fan Fest, a free event at Town Square that was part pep rally, part ticket drive and part meet-and-greet, all designed to rekindle the spirit of the Rebels’ diehards.

Last week, five students completed their freshman year at UNLV. This might seem unremarkable, but these kids faced a particular challenge: They’re homeless and don’t have parents or guardians to offer the usual support.
Many hotels today are like older cars, in that technology has enabled them to really push their performance, but it also becomes a limiting factor if the existing structure cannot keep bolting on new solutions to old systems.

Tens of thousands of Americans recently marched and rallied in support of evidence-based science and the acknowledgment of human-caused climate change. It was a good start toward the goal of bringing honest, science-based policymaking back into our government.
