Accreditation
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Counseling and Psychological Services is accredited by the International Accreditation of Counseling Services (IACS) and is a member of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC). The Internship Training Program is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). Our next APA site visit is scheduled for 2023.
Confidentiality
Professional ethics codes and state laws consider the personal information discussed in counseling to be strictly confidential. All information gathered in counseling, including the fact that the student has come to CAPS, is held in strict confidence. No information is released to university officials, faculty members, parents, or outside agencies without written prior authorization from the student. Exceptions to confidentiality include (but are not limited to) imminent danger of serious harm to self or others; suspected or confirmed current abuse of a person under 18 years of age, over 60 years of age, or disabled; or a medical emergency. In these instances, the clinician must take action to prevent harm.
Email messages are not confidential. Response times vary, dependent on the availability of the recipient and should not be used in an emergency. To discuss confidential concerns, please call us at 702-895-3627.
