In OWL Consultations, consultants will read the document and use the Google Docs comment function only to give suggestions on how you might improve your draft. We will not alter your writing in any way. As such, Writing Center consultants do not proofread, edit, or adapt your writing for you; consultants act as coaches to help you learn to do those tasks yourself.

OWL consultants spend a maximum of 45 minutes with each paper, so they may not have time to address all your concerns. Their comments will reflect what they feel are the most important issues in your draft. Therefore, the OWL is better served for more complete drafts that you'd like general feedback on. If you'd like more specific help, please make an appointment with us.

Please note:

• Writers are limited to one OWL submission every 24 hours and two per week. Submissions in excess of this will be rejected.
• You may submit the same paper twice only if you have made revisions based on our comments between submissions or if you have a longer paper and want us to look at a different range of pages.
• OWL consultants are unable to review more than five double-spaced pages (1250 words) in 45 minutes — and possibly less, depending upon the concerns they notice. We will look at the first five pages unless you indicate otherwise in the special instructions of the intake sheet.
• We do not work on brainstorming, outlines, in-text citations, References/Works Cited pages, or sentence-level concerns (grammar, punctuation, syntax) in an OWL Consultation. Because we need to have a conversation with you to help you learn about these areas of writing, you should schedule an In-person or Virtual Consultation.
• You must use your Rebelmail address to submit your paper. Failure to use an @unlv.nevada.edu or @unlv.edu address will result in immediate rejection.
