About In-Person Consultations
In-person consultations are live 45-minute, one-to-one or group consultations with one of our consultants. They are held face-to-face at the Writing Center, located on the second floor of the Campus Resource Center (CRC), Room 216.
What to Expect
During your session, you will have a conversation with a consultant about your writing. Most typically, you will read portions of your work aloud, share your concerns, and discuss strategies for improvement and the next steps in your drafting process.
Benefits of In-Person Consultations
In-person consultations can be used by any writer at any stage in the writing process and are most useful for:
- Brainstorming and early writing, if you don’t have a final draft
- Receiving verbal feedback about your specific questions and concerns
- Discussing grammar, formatting, and citations (APA, MLA, and others)
- Longer pieces of writing
Policies for In-Person Consultations
- Required Documents: You must bring two printed copies of your piece of writing or one printed copy and a laptop or tablet. You should also bring the prompt/assignment instructions and any notes, sources, or ideas that would aid the conversation about your paper.
- Printing is available in the CRC 228 computer lab. You will need to have money on your RebelCard.
- Canceling Your Appointment: You must cancel at least one hour before your scheduled consultation. Up to an hour before the appointment, you may cancel the appointment online. If you wish to cancel less than one hour before your appointment, you must call the Writing Center at 702-895-3908.
- Missed Appointments: If you do not show up to your appointment and the appointment is not canceled, you are marked as a No Show. After two No Shows, you will no longer be able to make appointments online and must call us to schedule any consultations for the remainder of the semester.
- Notifying an Instructor: We are able to notify your instructor, coach, and/or advisor of your consultation. Read our instructor notification policies for more information.
