Allison Crawford
Allison Crawford, '20 BS Education, received a 2020-21 Clark County School District New Educator of the Year Award. She was recognized for her outstanding efforts teaching honors algebra at Sunrise Mountain High School. She said her first-year teaching experience was both challenging and rewarding. The three main things she learned were staying positive about any situation, never being afraid to ask for help — in part so that her students would learn it is OK to ask for help, and being herself, she said. When she was presented the award, her students were on Google Meet, cheering her achievement.
Aaron Thompson
Aaron Thompson, '07 BA Journalism and Media Studies, will be completing his master of arts degree in sociology from Arizona State University (ASU) in May. Upon graduation, he will begin his studies as a Ph.D. candidate at the T. Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics at ASU in the field of sociology. His research will focus on how social media creates and re-enforces individuals' socio-political identities. Collecting obscure noise rock records, cycling, and taking photos are his hobbies. He lives in Baltimore.
Ben Bingham
Ben J. Bingham, '97 BA Communication Studies, is an attorney. His law firm, Benson & Bingham Accident Injury Lawyers is a small firm dedicated to personal service. He said that from a young age he wanted to become an advocate. At 16 he started as a runner for a law office, a job he kept throughout college.
Katie Stambaugh
Kathleen Barrett Stambaugh, '06 BSBA - Management, recently was promoted to vice president of finance and operation for Braintrust, a certified minority-owned business and leading integrated marketing agency. She joined the agency in 2014 and previously served as controller. In her new job she leads and facilitates the agency’s day-to-day business operations and oversees finances and human resources. She ensures alignment between multiple departments and related priorities and functions to safeguard client success. She continues to serve as a liaison for staff, client partners, and third-party vendors and ensures that critical functions of the agency are managed as efficiently as possible.
Panagiote Tsolis
Panagiote Tsolis, '10 BSBA Marketing, '14 MBA, is a Ph.D. candidate at Pepperdine University in global leadership and change. He works as an assistant professor of business at the University of Saint Katherine in San Marcos, California, and as an adjunct instructor at the Hellenic American University in Athens, Greece. He also works as an independent consultant in the casino gaming and hospitality space. His hobbies include reading, attending the theater, traveling, hiking, and going to the beach.
Iris Hattersley
Iris Hattersley, '12 BA English and '17 MA English, was one of the first 13 female deputy U.S. marshals hired by the U.S. Marshals Service. She has written a book about her experiences called Lucky Thirteen. Now she is writing a mystery. She retired in 1993, but continued to work as a contract special investigator conducting background investigations for the U.S. office of personnel. Writing, reading, and walking are among her hobbies. She belongs to a memoirs group, the Sun City Anthem Authors, and the Valley Women's Club. She lives in Henderson.
Irena Scott
Irena Scott, '72 MS Biology, will be a featured speaker at the 4th annual UFO Mega Conference taking place in Las Vegas in March. She is the author of Beyond Pascagoula; the Rest of the Amazing Story, which shows scientific proof of unexplained phenomena. She has been active in the encouragement of scientific research about this phenomenon. Scott has been an assistant professor at St. Bonaventure University and has worked for the Defense Intelligence Agency in a position involving satellite photography. She received her Ph.D. from the University Of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. She lives in Lewis Center, Ohio.
Karen Hall
Karen Hall, '88 BA Communication Studies, navigates broadcasting, athletics, education, and leadership careers. She is an ESPN3 and ESPN+ college women's basketball color analyst, assistant executive director with Ozanam, and a Point Park University professor. She also facilitates leadership learning lab workshops. After graduating from UNLV, where she played basketball, she had an extensive collegiate basketball coaching career. She then earned a master's degree in organizational leadership from Geneva College and a doctorate in educational leadership and administration from Point Park University. Her main hobby is reconnecting with former Rebels. In November 2021 she and other former Lady Rebel basketball players returned to campus for a reunion. She lives in Pittsburgh.
Derek Pollard
Derek Pollard, '15 PhD English, recently saw his latest collection of poems, On the Verge of Something Bright and Good, published by Barrow Street Press. It is his third book and second collection of poems. In 2020, the University of Michigan Press published the critical anthology he edited on the writing of UNLV English department faculty member Donald Revell, Till One Day the Sun Shall Shine More Brightly: The Poetry and Prose of Donald Revell, in the Under Discussion Series. He recently was appointed series editor for the Poets on Poetry Series, also published by the University of Michigan Press. The series was founded in 1977 and has been in continuous publication ever since. He lives in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Mabior Ayuen
Mabior Ayuen, '11 BSBA Economics, is general manager and vice president at St. Rose Hospital Siena campus. The hospital's mission is to improve the health of people and communities through the values of family tradition. His hobbies include traveling, playing golf, bowling, camping, and working out at the gym. He and his wife, wife Jona, have four children, Nyanwel, Angeth, Alier, and Akuoc.
Penelope LePome
Penelope LePome, '84 MS Educational Psychology, was selected for a three-week artist residency program that takes in Orquevaux, France, this month. Gardening, painting, ceramics, quilting, reading, canoeing/kayaking, hiking, and volunteering are her hobbies. She is retired and lives in Ridgecrest, California.
Brent Denison
Brent A. Denison, '04 MFA Theatre Arts, recently was afforded the opportunity to return to the college where he began his higher education journey, Manatee Community College in Bradenton, now called State College of Florida. He is the college's new manager of performing arts centers, which includes the Neel Performing Arts Center, Howard Studio Theatre, and the newly opened Studio for the Performing Arts. He said he is thrilled to be back on the campus where his career path began and now be able to share his experiences in the field with students where he set his career goals to one day manage a Performing Arts Center. He and his partner live in Riverview.
