Who Should Read this Policy
All UNLV faculty, staff, and students.
Policy
UNLV faculty, staff, and students involved in human subjects research must comply with all applicable federal human subjects laws, regulations and policies, as well as all other applicable university, local, and/or state laws, regulations and policies. All UNLV research involving human subjects must be reviewed by the Office of Research Integrity – Human Subjects (ORI-HS) or one of UNLV’s Institutional Review Boards (IRBs). The ORI-HS and the IRBs have the authority to determine the need for and level of IRB review of research that involves (or may involve) human subjects and will establish and maintain the UNLV Rules and Procedures for Conducting Human Subjects Research (“UNLV Rules and Procedures”). The IRB also has the authority to make a determination of noncompliance and to issue a corrective action plan.
Failure to obtain the required reviews and approvals prior to conducting any research activities involving human subjects, and/or neglecting to follow applicable UNLV Rules and Procedures, as well as instructions or guidelines issued by the IRB, prior to, during and after the conduct of research or research-related activities involving human subjects may result in the termination or suspension of a research protocol or other appropriate corrective actions.
