The Applied Biomedical Research Laboratory within the Bigelow Health Sciences building, rooms 118 - 122, houses specialized equipment and cold storage units that make possible a wide variety of studies. It is one of the UNLV laboratories capable of conducting tests on live specimens. The lab provides access to instruments, self and full services, training as well as technical consultation for animal, tissue- and cell-based, and molecular biological research.

Flow Cytometer

Flow Cytometer

The BD FACSAria™ Fusion flow cytometer is a comprehensive advanced cell sorter. The unit’s software enables researchers to preview and record data from multiple samples with an automated acquisition process. The flow cytometer offers index sorting and digital electronics that has demonstrated linear and accurate event data acquisition at up to 70,000 events per second.

This equipment was supported by an Army Research Office Award awarded to former UNLV Nursing Professor Dr. Barbara St. Pierre Schneider (W911NF1410049). Disclaimer: Review of material does not imply Department of the Army endorsement of factual accuracy or opinion.

Luminex System

Luminex System

The Luminex 200™ System is a flexible analyzer based on the principles of flow cytometry, and can simultaneously measure up to 100 analytes in a single microplate well, using very small sample volumes.

Cryostat

Cryostat

The Cryostat machine contains an optimized cooling system, rapid specimen freezing, and smooth specimen orientation for the high-quality sectioning demanded in routine histology and clinical pathology.

SpectraMax® 340PC384 Microplate Reader

SpectraMax® 340PC384 Microplate Reader

The Microplate Reader supports variety of experiments including ELISA, cytoxicity, ß- galactosidase reporter gene assays, colorimetric protein and NAD(P)H-based assays. This equipment measures the optimal density (OD) of samples at the selected wavelengths (range from 340-850 nm).

Hematology Analyzer

Hematology Analyzer

The fully automated hematology analyzer is used for in-vitro diagnostic testing of whole blood specimens, platelet PRP samples, and whole blood component concentrates. The analyzer can provide sample tests either in closed or open tube modes, allowing a throughput of up to 60 samples per hour, and can micro sample 10µL of whole blood per cycle.
