RebelCard: More Than a Card, It's Technology: Proper Card Care and Handling

Your RebelCard is more than a simple ID card, it's technology that contains an integrated chip, antenna, and magnetic stripe (MAG stripe) that require proper care and handling to ensure the longevity and performance of the card.

Proper Care For Your RebelCard:

  • Avoid wireless charging: Wireless chargers may damage the RFID chip and weaken the MAG stripe. Always remove your RebelCard from your phone case before wireless charging.
  • Clean gently: If your card gets dirty, use a soft, non-scratching cloth with water to clean it. Be careful not to scrub the MAG stripe, as this could cause wear.
  • Use a protective case: Store your RebelCard in plastic or rubber ID card holders to help safeguard the card and the MAG stripe from physical damage.

Other Things to Avoid:

  • Magnetic fields: Keep the card away from magnets or devices that produce strong magnetic fields, as these can demagnetize the MAG stripe, rendering it unreadable.
  • Bending, biting, or twisting the card: This can damage both the internal chip and antenna, as well as the MAG stripe.
  • Carrying the card unprotected: Avoid placing the card in a pocket or backpack where it could get bent or scratched, damaging the MAG stripe and internal technology.
  • Washing the card: Never allow the card to go through a laundry cycle, which can warp the card and ruin the MAG stripe.
  • Exposing the card to extreme heat: Direct sunlight, clothes dryers, leaving the card in a car during extreme heat, and open flames can warp the card and cause damage to the MAG stripe and internal technology.
  • Placing the card in metal cases: Metal phone cases or objects can interfere with the card's antenna and degrade the performance.
  • Punching holes in the card: Holes can destroy the internal chip, antenna, or MAG stripe, making the card unusable.

Broken Card Replacement

Failure to follow these guidelines below can compromise the card's embedded technology and magnetic stripe. If your card becomes damaged or the MAG stripe no longer works, a replacement fee will be charged under the card care guidelines.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure that your card and its MAG stripe last longer and function optimally for all your campus transactions.
