The Nevada Board of Regents on Thursday approved the next step in the development of a building for UNLV School of Medicine, voting in a favor a plan to allow a nonprofit funded mostly by donors to construct the building at 625 Shadow Lane in the city’s medical district.

The UNLV School of Medicine has received provisional accreditation by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, the accrediting authority for medical schools throughout the U.S. and Canada, the university confirmed Wednesday.

Just days after a threatening message was found scrawled on the stall of a UNLV bathroom, acting UNLV President Marta Meana defended the role of universities as a bastion of free speech, telling a crowd during her annual State of the University address Wednesday that “openness is a threat to those who would want to shrink our world.”

UNLV alumna Beverly Rogers is establishing a $5 million endowment to support a rare books curator position in her name and bolster the rare books collection at the UNLV University Libraries.

Dr. Marta Meana was appointed acting president of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas a little more than a year ago. Since her appointment, UNLV has been identified as one of the highest rated research universities and most diverse campuses in the country. Dr. Meana discusses how a short-term stint as an acting president can still drive long-term student success, growth and sustainability.

To advance innovation and research, casino and gambling giant Caesars Entertainment has partnered with the University of Las Vegas to develop a casino innovation hub on the university’s southwest campus.

A Las Vegas casino company and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, say they’re partnering to create a teaching and practice space featuring a mock casino, hotel rooms, sports betting area and esports arena.
