UNLV Med students 'Match' to residency programs.

U.S. Sen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nevada, has proposed the Physicians for Underserved Areas Act, which aims to bring more doctors to regions in need. The bill, S.709, was announced as Nevada ranks 46th for states in primary care physicians per 100,000 people. All 17 of the state’s counties have healthcare professional shortages.

Given the highly contagious nature of measles and the ongoing outbreak, some health officials expect continued spread could last a year. Texas is bearing the brunt of the outbreak, with the majority of the cases reported in the state.

It was a life-changing day at the UNLV Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine as students participated in Match Day, a pivotal event where soon-to-be graduates discover where they will spend the next three to seven years completing residencies in their chosen specialties.

We're talking about the soon to be graduate members of the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine class of 2025! Just an hour before the big announcement, Dr. Marc Kahn came by on ARC to express his excitement for the students and how much this special moment meant to him. To celebrate the big day, there's a tradition of having themed "matching" days where last year, Dr. Kahn dressed up as Super Mario and this year is Harry Potter-themed!

High school seniors were thinking about prom, planning their graduation parties and mapping out the rest of their lives in early 2020, but just like that, those plans changed. Five years later, many of those seniors have graduated college and started their careers.

On Friday, March 21 — just a week away — more than 40,000 medical students around the country will find out where they will be serving their residencies. About 300 of those graduates are from UNLV, UNR and Touro University, but there aren’t enough residencies in the state to keep them here.
