The UNLV department of art welcomes Whitney Bedford to the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, for the fall Visiting Artist Lecture Series.
Bedford, who lives and works in Los Angeles, received her MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2003. She was awarded a Krasner Pollock Grant in 2015 and was the winner of the 2001 UCLA Hammer Museum Drawing Biennale. She also received a Fulbright Graduate Fellowship from Hochschule der Kuenste, Berlin in 1999. She has been included in group exhibitions at the Jewish Museum, New York; Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, North Adams; and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver. Bedford’s work is included in the Jumex Collection, Mexico City; the De La Cruz Collection, Miami; the Saatchi Collection, London; the Francois Pinault Collection, Paris; the Eric Decelle Collection, Brussels; the Collection Ginette Moulin/Guillaume Houze, Paris; the Art in Embassies Program (Saudi Arabia and Brussels/NATO headquarters); and the Marciano Foundation Art Collection, Los Angeles.
The UNLV Visiting Artist Lecture Series features a diverse array of some of the most compelling artists and thinkers working in the art world today. This important program brings both established and emerging artists to visit the campus and discuss their work in public lectures and to offer individual critiques to our BFA and MFA students. This program has established itself as an invaluable resource for UNLV students and the public alike. The primary mission of the UNLV Artist Lecture Series is to educate, inspire, and foster a greater understanding and appreciation of contemporary art through visual presentations and discourse.
