The award-winning, 10-time Grammy-nominated UNLV Wind Orchestra presents its 5th Annual UNLV "President's Concert" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall. Works to be performed include John Williams' "Olympic Fanfare and Theme" and "Adventures on Earth"; Charles Gounod's "Soldier's Chorus" and "Avant de quitter ces Lieux"; Johann Strauss' "Nur Fort"; Morton Gould's "Fanfare for Freedom"; and W. Francis McBeth's "They Hung Their Harps in the Willows."
Joining professor Thomas Leslie, artistic director and conductor of the UNLV Wind Orchestra, are guest conductors Col. John R. Bourgeois, director emeritus, "The President's Own" United States Marine Band and Lt. Col. Dr. James Bankhead, former conductor/commander, United States Air Force Band. The concert also features guest speaker professor Clarence Gilyard; baritone soloist Richard Hodges; and UNLV Wind Orchestra associate director Zane Douglass.
As part of this special tribute to the service men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces, all proceeds from the concert will be donated to the UNLV Rebel Vets fund.
