The UNLV Performing Arts Center presents one of Argentina's greatest cultural exports, Tango Buenos Aires, and its new show - The Fire and Passion of Tango - at 8 p.m. on Saturday, January 22 as part of the New York Stage & Beyond Series. Known throughout the Americas, Europe, and the Far East as the most authentic and uncompromising representative of Tango, the company's new show presents the modern history of Tango from its beginnings to the present.

Renowned composer and tango director Osvaldo Requena created Tango Buenos Aires for the Jazmines Festival at the famous Buenos Aires cabaret, Michelangelo. The company was met with tremendous success and was immediately added to the season of the General San Martin Municipal Theatre.

In 1986, the company traveled to the U.S. in order to represent Argentina at the Latin American Festival, which took place at the Delacorte Theatre in New York City's Central Park. This event was followed by an extensive tour throughout the U.S., along with trips to Mexico, Puerto Rico and El Salvador, followed by a return to the U.S. via Miami and San Francisco. In December 1986, the group appeared on NHK television in Tokyo, and it completed 62 performances throughout Japan, as well as a CD recording for Sony entitled Quejas de Bandone?n.

In 2005, Julian Vat, Argentina's most prolific composer, assumed the title of music director.

The company is currently on a coast-to-coast tour of the U.S. and Canada.

Tickets to Tango Buenos Aires are $40, $55, and $85 and can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center Box Office at 895-ARTS (2787) or by visiting pac.unlv.edu. Student rush tickets are $13 each and available one hour prior to each event, based on availability and with valid student I.D. UNLV faculty and staff discounts also are available. A $1.25 facilities fee, in addition to the ticket price, is charged on all Performing Arts Center tickets. The box office is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Founded in 1976, the Performing Arts Center at UNLV continues to be Southern Nevada's premier performing arts venue. Located on the north end of the UNLV campus, the PAC hosts a variety of performances each year in three distinct series - the Charles Vanda Master Series, the New York Stage & Beyond Series, and the UNLV Classical Guitar Series.
