LAS VEGAS - Martha Banks, soprano and doctoral candidate at UNLV, was named the national winner of the Classical Singer Magazine vocal competition for 2010 this past Sunday, May 30 in New York City. The competition consisted of more than 1,100 singers from over 60 universities and conservatories. Included were singers from all of the top 10 music schools in the U.S. All voice types competed for a scholarship award and a recording contract session in NY with orchestra. Banks had to sing five times in three days before a varied panel of internationally famed opera singers, conductors and coaches.
