UNLV’s Spring Jazz Festival, featuring legendary jazz drummer Tommu Igoe, will take place on April 29-May 1 in Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall.
The festival includes performances from UNLV Jazz Ensembles I, II, and III; Latin Jazz Ensemble; Contemporary Jazz Ensemble; and UNLV’s Jazz Vocal Ensembles. All three concerts are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. UNLV’s distinguished guest artist Tommu Igoe will perform on May 1 with UNLV Jazz Ensemble I (directed by Dave Loeb and Nathan Tanouye) and Jazz Ensemble II (directed by Tristan Selzler).
Tommu Igoe has long been recognized as one of the finest drummers in the world and is the top-selling author in his field with four #1 titles on Amazon.com. He has played drums on three Grammy award-winning records and was voted the World’s #1 Jazz Drummer in the 2014 Modern Drummer Reader’s Poll. UNLV Jazz Ensemble I was the co-winner in the 2023 DownBeat Magazine Student Music Awards in the Graduate College Large Ensemble category. Recognition in DownBeat is considered among the highest honors in jazz education worldwide.
