The UNLV Honors Jazz Trio recently was selected from distinguished collegiate music programs internationally to perform in the Jazz Education Network virtual conference on Jan. 6. The Jazz Education Network promotes the American art form, jazz, through a community of leading musical artists, outstanding educators, and talented students and is considered the premier organization supporting jazz education in the world.
The UNLV Honors Jazz Trio features Patrick Hogan, pianist; Michael Hoffman, drummer; and bassist, Ruben Van-Gundy, and is directed by Dave Loeb, professor of music and director of the Division of Jazz and Commercial Music in the School of Music. The UNLV Honors Jazz Trio also was a winner in the prestigious Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival College Combo Division in 2018 and 2020, competing among jazz combos from exceptional university music institutions. They performed at the acclaimed Monterey Jazz Festival in 2018 and are invited to appear at the 64th annual Monterey Jazz Festival in 2021. The Monterey Jazz Festival is one of the most renowned events in jazz worldwide.
