UNLV Jazz Ensemble I, directed by Dave Loeb and Nathan Tanouye, and the UNLV Latin Jazz Ensemble, directed by Uli Geissendoerfer, perform at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, in Artemus Ham Concert Hall, celebrating the release of their latest CD, Fascinating Rhythm/Latin Journey III. The UNLV Honors Jazz Trio, Patrick Hogan, piano; Michael Hoffman, drums; and Ruben Van-Gundy, bass, also will perform and are returning from their command performance at the Monterey Jazz Festival this past weekend, after winning the College Combo Division at the 2018 Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival. They competed against some of the top university jazz groups in the nation, including the Berklee School of Music and University of Miami, to receive this honor. Since 2010, UNLV jazz studies students also have received 17 prestigious DownBeat Magazine Student Music Awards, considered among the highest recognition in jazz education worldwide.
