The UNLV Department of Film and Cox Communications Las Vegas will host the Cox Channel 96/UNLV Student Film Festival Sept. 4 - Sept. 22.
Two hours of featured student work will run 8 -10 p.m. Sept. 4-5, 14-15, and 21-22.
"The Cox Channel 96/UNLV Film Student Festival is a sample of outstanding filmmaking during the past year," said Francisco Menendez, chair of the UNLV Department of Film. "These students unleash their imaginations, pool their resources and spend countless hours creating these works. Our faculty and staff in the UNLV Department of Film are extremely proud of our emerging student filmmakers."
The short films will stream simultaneously on www.cox96.net and be available on Cox Channel 1 On DEMAND. Navigating from the On DEMAND homepage to Freezone Student Film Festival. The film content will be available in On DEMAND until Sept. 30.
"We're very excited to host this festival with UNLV as it will provide young filmmakers with an opportunity to reach new audiences through access to community programming on cable television while enriching the cable channel's cultural offerings," said Steve Schorr, vice president of public and government affairs at Cox Communications Las Vegas.
The Department of Film offers a broad-based BA degree in Film and an MFA in screenwriting that delivers a variety of curricular options leading to careers in the dynamic worlds of narrative film and digital filmmaking. Students are challenged with innovative directing training, signature screenwriting approaches, the latest digital cinematography, cutting edge non-linear editing solutions and interactive approaches toward teaching film history.
