The UNLV Performing Arts Center welcomes Greek guitarist Elena Papandreou, hailed as a "poet of the guitar" (Washington Post), at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9 in the Doc Rando Recital Hall of the Beam Music Center as part of the Classical Guitar Series.
Papandreou has performed throughout Europe, the US, Canada, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Brazil and Japan. Within the "Rising Stars" program of the European Concert Hall Organization, she performed in some of the most prestigious halls in Europe, including the Vienna Musikverein, Koelner Philharmonie, Birmingham Symphony Hall, and the Athens Concert Hall. She has also played in the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow and the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. In 1998 she gave her Carnegie Hall debut in New York.
She has collaborated with outstanding musicians, including guitarists Alirio Diaz, Oscar Ghiglia, Roland Dyens, Nikita Koshkin, Evangelos Boudounis and Giorgos Mouloudakis; violinists Leonidas Kavakos and Gerardo Ribeiro; singers Vasso Papantoniou, Herbert Lippert and Nena Venetsanou; and flutist Stella Gadedi. Papandreou has played as a soloist with the State Orchestras of Athens and Thessaloniki, the Camerata Orchestra, the Orchestra of Colours, the Orchestra of Patras, and the Orchestra of Alessandria, Italy. Performances were recorded by Greek Television and Radio, Radio France, Deutsche Welle, and Turkish Television.
Tickets to Elena Papandreou are $40 and can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center Box Office at 895-ARTS (2787) or by visiting pac.unlv.edu. Student rush tickets are $13 each and available one hour prior to each event, based on availability and with valid student I.D. UNLV faculty and staff discounts also are available. A $1.25 facilities fee, in addition to the ticket price, is charged on all Performing Arts Center tickets. The box office is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Founded in 1976, the Performing Arts Center at UNLV continues to be Southern Nevada's premier performing arts venue.
