November brings a festival of new work from the College of Fine Arts that includes both musical theatre and opera in the Black Box Theatre.
What's Going On
Nevada Conservatory Theatre's What's Going On (A Soldier's Story) — book by Carl Anthony Tillman, music by Marvin Gaye, and presented by arrangement with Sony Music — features performer Michael Jahlil and is directed by professor Nate Bynum.
The hardships of battle and war are sometimes only made more difficult by a return to 'the real world.' The story of one black soldier's return home and his attempt to regain the life he left behind is made even more moving by the use of Gaye's musical masterpiece, "What's Going On." The story and music are woven together to make a greater whole and to help the rest of us really understand the question we are being asked in the play.
And the question of course is.....What's Going On?
