The Nevada Conservatory Theatre is proud to present the award-winning musical Violet from April 28 - May 7 in the Judy Bayley Theatre. With music by by Jeanine Tesori (Fun Home; Shrek; Caroline, or Change) and book and lyrics by Brian Crawley, Violet presents the story of Violet, disfigured as a child, who searches for salvation. What she finds will transform her forever. Based on a short story by Doris Betts. Valerie Rachelle directs, with musical direction by James Whiting.
Rachelle is a professional director and choreographer with more than 25 years' experience. She attended California Institute of the Arts for her BFA in acting and the University of California-Irvine for her MFA in directing. Valerie has worked at theaters around the country including Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Utah Shakespeare Festival, Syracuse Opera, Eugene Opera, Fresno Grand Opera, Sierra Repertory Theatre, Glendale Center Theater, Performance Riverside, Lucid by Proxy, Oregon Cabaret Theater, Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theater, Southern Oregon University, El Camino College, Summer Repertory Theater, PCPA Theaterfest, and many others. She is currently the artistic director of the Oregon Cabaret Theater in Ashland, Oregon, now in its 38th season.
The cast includes Heather Renner as Violet, Megan Perkins as Young Violet, Ryan Ruckman as Father, Kevin Stevens as Monty, Anjali Norton as Swing, Sean Evans as Flick, Sophia Ramos as Music Hall Singer/Emsemble, Ira Norwood as Leroy/Virgil/Ensemble, Greg Prusiewicz as Preacher/Billy Dean/Ensemble, Ashley Gonzalez as Ensemble, Richard Coop as Waiter/Radio Singer/Ensemble, Eli Carlin as Bus Driver 1/Earl/Ensemble, Chiara Cala as Ensemble, and Jimena Amador-Velasco as Old Lady/Hotel Singer/Ensemble.
