The Nevada Conservatory Theatre opens Shakespeare's enchanting comedy "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at 7:30 p.m. April 29 in the Judy Bayley Theatre. The show runs through May 8. Melissa Maxwell directs.
Four mismatched paramours run away and wander into a magical forest. Over the course of one exhilarating night, the young lovers, along with an unsuspecting aspirational theatre troupe, cross paths with the fairy king and queen, who are facing their own domestic turmoil. Misguided passions mix with magic spells as this classical romantic fantasy blurs the lines between order and disorder, reality and illusion, turning love and marriage on their heads in a comical knot that can’t be untangled until morning!
Maxwell's credits include Keith Josef Adkin’s Safe House (Repertory Theatre of Saint Louis; received 6 St. Louis Theatre Circle Award Nominations); world premiere of four-time EMMY- winner Judy Tate’s Slashes of Light (The Kitchen Theatre/Civic Ensemble; NYCWAM Collaboration award finalist); world premiere of Andrea Lepcio’s Tunnel Vision (Off the WALL Theatre); American Slavery Project’s Unheard Voices (NY Historical Society and other venues); Show Way (Vital Theatre; received Off Broadway Theatre Alliance ‘Best Family Show’ nomination): Nathan the Wise (Pearl Theatre Company); world premiere of scientist Carl Djerassi’s (creator of the contraceptive pill) Taboos (Soho Playhouse).
Maxwell also is a veteran actor of stage, tv and film, an award-winning playwright, and a motivational speaker with two TEDx Talks to her credit (TEDxMosesBrownSchool: Taking Ownership; TEDxBarnardCollegeWomen: On Courage).
The cast includes Kevin Stevens, Heather Renner, Greg Prusiewicz, Skylar Schock, Nyssa Newman, Blake Spicer, Luke Halferty, Ryan Ruckman, Justin James, Alex Olsen, Jacob Noble, Linsey Lewis, and Autumn Simone Morgan.
