Nevada Conservatory Theatre is excited to announce that Christopher V. Edwards has joined the theatre as artistic director. Edwards is a UNLV alumnus and has directed past NCT productions, including Seven Guitars and Arcadia. He is a director, actor, and educator who worked 14 years with the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival as associate artistic director and director of education. He has worked in regional theaters across the country, as well as internationally.
Professional directing credits include: How to Break with HERE Arts Center, New York City; Collective Consciousness, New Haven, Connecticut; and The National Theatre of Norway in Oslo; Innaviews with Pregones Theater, New York City; Myth Understood, Love's Obsession, Taming of the Shrew, Macbeth,and Hip Hop Shakespeare with Lincoln Center's "Meet the Artists"; staged readings of How to Break and Innaviews with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland; I Have Before Me A Remarkable Document Given To Me By A Young Lady From Rwanda with Vermont Stage Company in Burlington; Shakespeare The Remix with Capital Repertory in Albany, New York; Master Harold...and the boys with St. Michael's Playhouse in Burlington; Othello, The Three Musketeers, Macbeth, Around the World in 80 Days, Bomb-itty of Errors, Romeo and Juliet, A Winter's Tale, Hamlet, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Julius Caesar,and Much Ado About Nothing with the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival in Cold Spring, New York.
Professional acting credits include performances in London's West End, Ireland, Scotland, Off-Broadway, Ubu Rep, John Houseman's The Acting Company, Atlantic Theater Company, the Guthrie Theater, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, American Stage, Stamford Theater Works, Vermont Stage Company, Penumbra Theatre, and the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival to name a few. Some of his favorite roles include: Richard III in Richard III, Caliban in The Tempest, Mercutio and Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, Gratiano in The Merchant of Venice, Morrie in The Blood Knot, Macduff in Macbeth, Percy in Woza Albert!, and Poupon in Murder in Mind.
As an educator, Edwards has taught at Mont Claire State University in New Jersey, Bennington College in Vermont, the United States Military Academy at West Point, St. Michael's College in Vermont, UNLV, University of Minnesota, John Houseman's the Acting Company on tour nationally, Weston Playhouse in Vermont, Lincoln Center in New York City, and the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival in New York. Courses include acting, voice, Shakespearean scene study, stage combat, text analysis, movement for the actor, violence in Shakespeare, hip hop theater, Greek drama, and teaching teachers to teach Shakespeare.
Edwards has worked with inner city schools in the five boroughs of New York City with the Creative Arts Team, Manhattan Theater Club, and Point of Entry Theater exploring Shakespeare, Greek myth, conflict resolution, peer pressure, and substance abuse through drama.
As a fight director, he has choreographed stage fights Off Broadway and regionally.
Edwards is a member of Actors Equity Association and is currently on the executive committee for the Shakespeare Theater Association.
Edwards received his bachelor of science degree in business administration at UNLV and attended the University of Minnesota in association with the Guthrie Theater for his MFA.
