The Nevada Conservatory Theatre (NCT) at UNLV presents William Shakespeare's "As You Like It" in the Black Box Theatre. NCT artistic director Christopher V. Edwards directs.
Uncertain of their standing in court and fearing for their lives, Rosalind and Orlando are forced into exile in the Forest of Arden, only to become entangled in a beguiling game of love, lust, and mistaken identity. One of Shakespeare's great comedies, "As You Like It" subverts the traditional rules of romance, confusing gender roles, nature, and politics.
The cast includes Amber Bonasso as Rosalind; Madison Kisst as Celia; Jack Lafferty as Duke Frederick; Stephon Pettway as Duke Senior; Sam Cordes as Orlando; Bernard Verhoeven as Oliver; Dale Perry as Adam; Shamith Gamage as Dennis; Darek Riley as Charles; Stefanie Resnick as Le Beau; Brandon Burk as Touchstone; Maurice Palmer, Brenna McCallum, and Kiersten Huang as the Amiens (singing group); Jennifer Johnson as Jaques; Taylor Hanes as Corin; Ryan Dougherty as Silvius; Kayla Gaar as Phoebe; Jasmine Mathews as Audrey; Samantha Murphy as Olly Martext; Jesse Bourque as William; and Brian Miller and Kaylin Yeung as Lord for Duke Senior and Duke Frederick.
The production and design team includes scenic designer Johnathan Menius, lighting designer Manuel Ramirez, sound designer Spencer Williams, costume designer Jennifer Van Buskirk, technical director Brian Smallwood, and production stage manager Amanda Mayfield.
Edwards is a UNLV alumnus and has directed past NCT productions, including Seven Guitars and Arcadia. He is a director, actor, and educator who worked 14 years with the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival as associate artistic director and director of education. He has worked in regional theaters across the country, as well as internationally.
