The Nevada Conservatory Theatre celebrates the season Dec. 2-17 with Sense and Sensibility — by Kate Hamill and adapted from the novel by Jane Austen — in the Judy Bayley Theatre. Paul Barnes directs.
A youthful and playful new adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel that was a recent Off-Broadway hit. The play follows the fortunes (and misfortunes) of the Dashwood sisters, the sensible Elinor and the hypersensitive Marianne, after their father’s sudden death, which leaves them financially destitute and socially vulnerable. When reputation is everything, how do you follow your heart?
Longtime director Barnes studied directing as an undergraduate at California State University at Fullerton, was a high school drama teacher in Stockton, California, an associate artistic director/conservatory director at PCPA Theaterfest, and producing director of the Great River Shakespeare Festival, but said his true training has been his practice, working as a free-lancer traversing the country, "blessed with a diverse, mostly non-stop array of assignments."
The cast includes Alexandra Ralph as Elinor Dashwood; Therese Anderberg as Marianne Dashwood; Mindy Woodhead as Mrs. Dashwood/Gossip; Bobby Lang as John Dashwood/Gossip; Alexis Hudson as Fanny Ferrars Dashwood/Gossip; Brandon L. Dawson as Edward Ferrars/Gossip; Carson Wilson as Robert Ferrars/Gossip; Keach J. Siriani-Madden; Myles A.
