The Nevada Conservatory Theatre (NCT) presents Academy Award-winning writer Tarell Alvin McRaney's poignant coming-of-age story Marcus; or the Secret of Sweet Feb. 14-23 in the Black Box Theatre. Kevin R. Free directs.
Marcus is 16 and "sweet." Days before Hurricane Katrina strikes the projects of Louisiana, the currents of his life converge, overflowing into his close-knit community and launching the search for his sexual and personal identity on a cultural landscape infused with mysterious family creeds. It is a provocative and fiercely humorous story of a young gay man in the South.
The cast includes Dominic Graber-Pritchard as Marcus Eshu; Aries Johnson as Osha; Ashlie Elaine Carter as Shaunta Iyun; Nylah Davis as Oba; Natasha Tuzzolino as Shun and Elegua; Jatavius Haynes as Ogun Size; Trenton Miles Carson as Shua; Kion Johnson as Terrell; and Cameron Bass as Oshoosi Size.
The production and design team includes assistant director Maurice-Aime Green, scenic designer Whitney Meltz, lighting designer Catherine Pratt, sound designers M. Sohaa Smith and Santiago Sanchez, costume designer Gabrielle Lewis, technical director Jalen Morgan, production stage manager Alan J. Stogin, and stage manager Natasha White..
