Join the Nevada Conservatory Theatre for an experience of paranormal investigation through "A Skeptic and a Bruja" by Rosa Fernandez Oct. 31-Nov. 10 in the Black Box Theatre.
About the play: When Sam and Jess shoot the latest episode of their hit paranormal investigation show 'A Skeptic and a Bruja,' they are thrown for a loop when their crew member Remy sees a ghost. The women struggle with their own biases and beliefs as the house they investigate reveals itself to them.

Nevada Conservatory Theatre has brought in Las Vegas' phenomenally talented director Delicia Turner Sonnenberg.
“I have known Delicia for over 20 years when we both ran theater companies in San Diego,” says NCT executive director Kirsten Brandt. “When I read the play I knew it was perfect for Delicia and that Delicia would be amazing with our students. She is a brilliant director who is working all over the country. I am happy to bring her talents to Las Vegas.
"I am equally happy to introduce Las Vegas to the work of playwright Rosa Fernandez. Fernandez is an emerging voice in American Theatre.”
Sonnenberg said, “What really drew me to the play were the characters. Each of them is dealing with a big fear they need to face. I love how the playwright wove that into the overall paranormal investigation of the house. Facing their personal demons starts the process of true healing and self empowerment.“
The cast includes Jillian Austin as Sam, Amanda Guardado as Jess, Nico Lemus as Remy, and Savannah Libatique as Priscilla.
The creative team includes scenic designer Emily Whatley, costume designer Judy Ryerson, lighting designer Paige Borak, sound designer Alan Holton, production stage manager Danielle Aikens, stage manager Moita Kowalski, associate costume designer Hannah Prochaska, props artisan, and assistant director Giana Reynolds.
About the Playwright
Rosa Fernandez lives in Buffalo, New York, full time with her husband and two children. She is an associate member of the Dramatist Guild and a two-time participant of the Emmanuel Fried New Play Workshop facilitated by Road Less Traveled Productions in Buffalo, New York. She attended Brooklyn College for a BFA in Theater. Her play, Curse of the Puerto Ricans was a semi-finalist for the Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference and runner up in the MetLife Nuestras Voces Playreading Series for Repertorio Español and made the 2020 Kilroys list. A Skeptic and a Bruja will receive a rolling World Premiere in Sarasota at Urbanite Theatre, then in Tampa Bay at FreeFall Theatre.
About the Director
Delicia Turner Sonnenberg has directed for Theatre Calgary, Round House Theatre, The Old Globe Theatre, La Jolla Playhouse, South Coast REP, Utah Shakespeare, San Diego REP, Actors Theatre of Louisville, and TheatreSquared among many others. She is a founder and former artistic director of MOXIE Theatre, which she helmed for 12 acclaimed seasons. Some honors: The Des McAnuff New Visions Award for “Risk Taking Leadership and Body of Work” and “Director of the Year” from the San Diego Theatre Critics Circle, KPBS “Patte” Awards, San Diego Theatre Critics Circle “Craig Noel” Awards, TCG’s New Generations Program, NAACP awards, Van Lier Fund Fellowship (Second Stage Theatre) and New York Drama League's Directors Project.
