The Nevada Conservatory Theatre presents Luigi Pirandello's Six Characters in Search of an Author -- a play exploring the relationship between authors, their characters, and theatre practitioners -- Feb. 20-29 in the Judy Bayley Theatre. Jean Randich directs.
In Six Characters in Search of an Author, the main character, a father, is tortured because his thoughts, no matter how brilliant, are crippled by his emotions.
Randich has directed emerging work and new looks at classic plays and musical theater for more than 20 years. Recent work includes: Antigone by Sophocles (NAATCO); The Floating Box, an opera by Hwang/Filloux (Asia Society); Drawn to Death by Art Spiegelman and Phillip Johnston (St. Ann's, NYC); Girl Under Grain by Karen Hartman (Winner: Best Drama, NY International Fringe Festival 2000); J.P. Morgan Saves the Nation by Jeffrey M. Jones and Jonathan Larson (En Garde Arts). Measure for Measure (NYU); Dog and Wolf by Catherine Filloux (59 E 59 Theaters); Leah's Train by Karen Hartman (NAATCO, TBG Theater); and Cabaret (Abe Burrows Theatre). She has also directed in Germany and Norway, and served as the American Juror at the 15th session of the Cairo International Festival of Experimental Theater.
The cast includes Equity actor Oliver Wadsworth as Father; Amber Bonasso as Mother; Jasmine Mathews as Stepdaughter; Sam Cordes as Son; Maurice Palmer as Young Boy; Monalisa Tripoli as Young Girl; Krishna Alexandra as Madame Pace; Stephon Pettway as Director; Theresa Moriarty as Director's Assistant/Stage Manager; Whitley Wilburn as Assistant Stage Manager; Ryan Dougherty as Stage Hand/Technician; Bernard Verhoeven as Camera Man/Videographer; Jack Lafferty as Leading Man; Stefanie Resnick as Leading Woman; Jesse Bourque as Young Actor; Madison Kisst as Young Actress; Darek Riley as Actor 3; Brian Miller as Actor 4; Kayla Gaar as Actress 3; Kaylin Young as Actress 4; Demetria Watkins as Actress 5; Spencer Bisek as Usher; and Shamith Gamage as Stage Hand 2.
The production and design team includes scenic designer Tina Lee, lighting designer Liz Kline, sound designer Spencer Williams, costumer designer Elizabeth LaRouche, technical director Jimmy Kwon, and production stage manager Adrienne Miranda.
