UNLV is the place to be on April 22 as the university celebrates Earth Day and welcomes the beautiful Southern Nevada spring weather with a full day of community focused and family friendly events.
The popular Festival of Communities and Powwow for the Planet return, and Rebel Preview is back with a campuswide open house for prospective students and their families. The student-led Recyclin’ Rebels will also host a free community recycling event outside the Thomas & Mack Center.
Festival of Communities
Noon to 3 p.m. on Academic Mall (outside the UNLV Student Union)
A UNLV and community tradition, Festival of Communities is back. Hosted by the university’s Student Involvement & Activities group, the festival will feature cultural performances by students, free activities for kids, and cultural food sold by UNLV student organizations.
The tradition dates back to 1987, when a small number of international and multicultural student groups set up booths to sell cultural food to raise funds and to promote cultural awareness. Over time, the event has grown to include dozens of booths, performances, and thousands of annual visitors to a community-wide celebration of the rich cultural traditions and diversity of UNLV, Las Vegas, and the world.
