The Donna Beam Fine Art Gallery kicks-off the Fall semester with an exhibition of work by the newest faculty members of the department of art. Marcus Civin, Cara Cole, Ashley Doughty, Kay Leigh Farley, Michael Fong, Frederic Bonin Pissarro, and Sean Slattery each will show examples of their current work.
A highlight of the evening will be a performance piece by Marcus Civin, the new art department chair. The piece is called, “Full Orchestra,” and it is part sculpture, part puppet show, part experimental concert. The installation will include: an ordinary-looking work table that functions as a giant drum; bronze hats that function as bells; columns to contain the sound of glass breaking; and hand-held props for extra percussive effects. Specially crafted wooden feet will be used to play the drum, and the bronze top hats will be played with hammers.
Please join us for a reception in their honor 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, August 31.
Gallery Hours: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.; Saturday Noon–5pm. Closed Sundays and holidays.
The gallery is located in the Alta Ham Fine Arts Building and is free and open to the public.
