The museum is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; admission is free.
The Barrick Museum at UNLV is dedicated to promoting a better understanding of life - past and present - in the American Southwest and Mesoamerica through the acquisition, maintenance and interpretation of collections and exhibitions. The museum devotes particular attention to the idea of early contact and migration; from the sharing of ideas and goods between the early cultures of Mesoamerica and the American Southwest, through the Spanish Conquest and early European settlement, to the continued migration we see today.
Current museum collections include costumes and textiles from Central and South America, historic and contemporary Mexican masks, and a rare exhibition of Pre-Columbian art and cultural artifacts. A temporary exhibit highlighting the photographic talents of Native American photographer John Running is also on display.
