Explore the many communities that make up Las Vegas through a new exhibit at the UNLV Barrick Museum. Organized in partnership with Yelp.com, "89XXXhibition: A Reconnaissance into Las Vegas Community" presents 22 local artists' interpretations of the communities where they live, work, and play, and celebrates the diversity of the Las Vegas Valley. The show opens May 20 and will run through July 9.
The exhibition marks a unique collaboration between the museum and Yelp, a web-based guide that connects communities with local businesses. "For Yelp, supporting the local community goes hand in hand with providing a spot for people to discover fabulous Vegas businesses, and the programming at the Barrick does so much to foster the cultural and community spirit of our town," says Misti Yang, Yelp's Las Vegas Community Manager. "I knew together we could create something that would shine a big light on both our community and art."
To celebrate the show's opening, Yelp is sponsoring a free public reception from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. May 20 at the museum, featuring entertainment, local food vendors including The Lunch Box and Rubios, and cocktails from Ellis Island Brewery and SKYY Vodka. A Yelp registration and RSVP are required to attend the reception. To learn more or to register, visit the 89xxxhibition.
