The award-winning UNLV Wind Orchestra will record its 23rd record album starting Saturday, April 1 at Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall. The week-long process will culminate with the production of the newest release of the UNLV Wind Orchestra series under the direction of Thomas G. Leslie.
Joining the wind orchestra is internationally reputed trombonist Joseph Alessi, principal trombone of the New York Philharmonic and current faculty member of The Juilliard School. Maestro Alessi will be the featured soloist on Concerto for Trombone by legendary jazz pianist and multiple Grammy Award-winner, Chick Corea.
The Boston Brass, an incomparable and world-renowned brass quintet, partners with the Wind Orchestra to record the world premiere of Five Cities by UNLV alumnus, Jorge Machain.
Other compositions to be recorded include Fanfare for the New by Hugo Montenegro and Her Name is Nessa, also composed by Machain. The UNLV Wind Orchestra partners with Parma Recordings to produce the album, with award-winning Jan Košulič serving as producer.
