Foreclosures by homeowner associations in Nevada’s two major counties led to more than $1 billion in lost property sale values, a report found. The Nevada Association of Realtors report looked at the impact of sales involving properties that were foreclosed after residents failed to pay their HOA fees. The study was done by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas’ Lied Institute for Real Estate Studies.

My alma matter’s sports logo features an angry brown bear clawing at a giant red C. Maybe that’s why I’m not angry about UNLV’s new athletic symbol. Familiar as the cartoonish old Rebels image might feel, the new version’s designers toed the modernization/preservation line pretty well, maintaining iconic elements from the original—the hat and moustache—within the sleeker adaptation. It’s a bit busy, sure, and the Welcome-sign outline and Stardust-y burst seem fairly superfluous, but is it really so terrible we had to stare at it for more than three seconds to take in all its elements? –Spencer Patterson

UNLV’s finance boss of nearly 13 years is resigning at the end of this week. Gerry Bomotti, who joined the university in September 2004, is leaving his post as senior vice president of finance and business for unknown reasons. UNLV spokesman Tony Allen said Bomotti’s resignation came after a “conversation between the president and Bomotti,” declining to provide any specifics.
