If Jordan Johnson isn’t a natural point guard, he sure knows how to act the part. The last time he played college basketball, he finished second in the NCAA in assists, as he averaged 8.1 per game for Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2015-16. Now, after transferring to UNLV and sitting out a redshirt season, the fifth-year senior will take the reins for the Rebels and run the point for a team poised to jump from last place to Mountain West contention.

Less than two weeks after UNLV’s chief finance boss left his post, a permanent replacement has been named. Jean Vock will join the university as vice president for finance and business and chief financial officer effective Aug. 28, replacing Gerry Bomotti, who held the position for nearly 13 years.

A historic event took place on the campus of UNLV as the inaugural class of the new School of Medicine kicked off its first week of studies. The 60 students who were chosen among 900 applicants, were honored with ceremonial stethoscopes that serve both symbolic and practical purposes.

Presenting the stethoscopes was more than a symbolic gesture. Dr. Constantine George told UNLV’s first class of medical school students that the instrument should be used as a reminder to keep patients at the center of what they do over the next four years and beyond.
