When the green flag fell on the final day of G2E at the Sands Expo and Convention Center Thursday, the choice of Danica Patrick to deliver a keynote speech (of sorts) might have seemed curious.

Without adequate research, it is hard to predict whether the latest measure designed to curb problem gambling in Macau, a city-wide casino entry ban, will prove effective.

Sands China Ltd. has been enhancing its Responsible Gaming efforts by further reaching out to the local community and making it a better place to live. Moreover, a dedicated team was established as a concrete step to promote responsible gaming to a wider audience.

“We talked about the challenges for the installation of casinos in Brazil and the positive impacts that gambling activity brings to various regions of the United States, which may become a reality in our country,” said Rep. Newton Cardoso Jr. after the meeting with the Caesars Group executives.

Las Vegas is a world reference in gaming exploration, attracting thousands of tourists from all over the world. Of the 193 UN member countries, about 75% have legalized gambling. Brazil is among the 25% that have not yet legalized. Las Vegas annually receives 40 million visitors. Of this total, more than 130 thousand are Brazilian.

Since the enactment of a law in July 2018 allowing legalized casinos to open in Japan, large-scale resort operators from the United States have been boosting their promotional activities to enter the fray of Japan's budding casino market.

A year has elapsed since the approval of the law permitting the creation of so-called integrated resorts, which will be Japan's first legal gambling casinos.

The International Conference on Gambling and Risk Taking traces its origins back to 1974, and is recognized as the premier research oriented conference in the world. It brings together international experts to examine and analyze gambling from many perspectives.
