While some students and faculty members are away for the summer, the campus continues to offer a number of services for the entire community. Here's a list a of just a few you might want to check out.
Make a Splash
The Student Recreation and Wellness Center offers Family Swim Night for all ages at 6-8 p.m. every second Friday of the month. Each session offers a different theme and includes games and special kids activities. SRWC members are free; adult nonmembers are $10; all children are free.
Free Legal Education
The William S. Boyd School of Law offers weekly workshops on basic procedures on bankruptcy, divorce, guardianship, custody, record sealing, and small claims court matters. Some classes are offered in Spanish.
Art and Culture
One of the gems on campus for all ages is the Barrick Museum, which offers Story Time daily and special tours for young children on the second Saturday of each month. Through Aug. 16, the museum is hosting free movie screenings to coincide with the "Jerry Lewis: Painted Picture Exhibition," which features the comedian's photography. Every third Saturday, the museum's Get Creative event helps patrons to create their own works of art with various projects. Visit the Barrick Museum website for a full lineup of activities.
Healthy Living
The department of kinesiology and nutrition sciences is hosting the Healthy Living Series of public workshops this summer, including healthy cooking on a budget, weight management, diabetes management and prevention, cardiovascular health, sports nutrition, and exercise.
Surplus Sales
Used equipment, office furniture, and even artwork can be found at the public surplus sales held every second and fourth Thursday of the month.
