UNLV Jazz Studies (Music) saw its performing groups invited to compete at the 58th annual Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival -- the sixth consecutive year that UNLV groups have received an invitation. The festival, which draws top student musicians from around the world, will take place this month in Monterey, Calif. UNLV's students will perform among exceptional university ensembles from across the nation in one of the most prestigious festivals for student jazz musicians. UNLV Jazz Ensemble I, conducted by Dave Loeb and Nathan Tanouye, The Latin Jazz Combo directed by Uli Geissendoerfer, and the Honors Jazz Quartet, led by Otto Ehling were selected through a rigorous audition process by a distinguished panel of judges to compete in the College Big Band and Open Combo divisions, respectively. UNLV jazz students earned major recognitions at last year's event. In addition, the UNLV Joe Williams Every Day Foundation Scholarship Jazz Sextet and Contemporary Jazz Ensembles were invited to participate as special guest performers for festival attendees.
