Philip Tschirhart and Emma Frances Bloomfield (both Communication Studies) published a paper, "Framing the Anthropocene as Influence or Impact: The Importance of Interdisciplinary Contributions to Stratigraphic Classification" in Environmental Communication. The paper examines disciplinary debates over the stratigraphic (rock-layer) designation of Anthropocene epoch. These debates are more than just technical disputes; they represent larger rhetorical conversations about what counts as evidence and what standards should be used to best represent humanity's impact on the environment.
